National Title I Distinguished School

We are in Nashville all week because our school received a fabulous honor. We were selected as a Title I Distinguished School. We have worked very hard for a long time and feel blessed to be recognized for our efforts!

During this week we have heard some great speakers, picked up some great new products to use in our classrooms, and had some fun!

Rudolph Fun!

I am sure that many of you have seen this pin if you have been on Pinterest in the last month.
I loved this idea, so I worked out how to do it with my firsties, and let me just say, they turned out super cute! We even added a bit of writing to go with our pictures.
This is our hall display completed.

If Rudolph peeked in my window he would see me sleeping in my bed.

If Rudloph peeked in my window he would see me scared to death!

If Rudolph peeked in my window he would see nobody. I was hiding under my window.

If Rudolph peeked in my window he would see me with goggles and a rope to lasso him.

Love this last one especially!

Elf Antics

Our elf arrived with much pomp and circumstance on Monday afternoon. He was quite cold from his journey from the North Pole. Our secretary hand delivered our very special package and the kids were thrilled! There was much debate about an appropriate name for our elf (a boy), but after a secret vote Snowflake won. One particular little boy was NOT thrilled about this! As we filled out our elf journals and answered questions about our new elf, he was extremely hesitant to write Snowflake's name. It took him the entire activity period to write it! And, he is the only non-believer in the class. See my previous post to see the journal I created. Our elf has been so sweet so far. On Thursday he brought us a bag to put our letters to Santa so it is easier for him to carry them back to the North Pole.
The kiddos have had a great time writing letters to Santa, so much so that I had to limit the number of children at Work on Writing during each round of Daily 5. Click on the picture for the download from TPT.

Elf on the Shelf LOVE!

On Friday I introduced the Elf on the Shelf to my class and we all wrote letters to Santa asking him to send us our very own scout elf.  Tomorrow that special elf will arrive.  He will be frozen from his trip from the North Pole and will be a special delivery.  In honor of his pending arrival I created a journal so that we can keep track of what our little elf does each day.

Pinterest!! Enough Said.

I have found a new summer obsession...stalking Pinterest for hours on end. I have got to get control of this, but it is so hard with so many great ideas floating around. Now...to put those ideas into practice. Here is my first completed project for my classroom. I am so pleased with how these turned out. Do you agree?
